aLSO MEANS TEACHING - in a way that is easily understandable...

It's what seperates 'just a guide' from a great guide.  If you've fished with me before, you know that I have a hard time NOT teaching during the day.  I try to avoid overloading my clients with information but after spending a day with me, you will be a better caster, a more efficient angler and have a better understanding of fly presentation and how to achieve that presentation in the best manner.   
As we all know - Take someone fishing for a day, they eat for a day. TEACH someone to fish, they eat for life.

I will teach you enough that you'll be able to fish the Lower Sac (or anywhere else) on your own and know what to do. You'll know how to read the water, tie your own fly on, and then get that important natural presentation - with or without a moving boat to help.

That is what separates me from the rest.

I've lived here in Redding, CA for as long as I've known what a fishing rod was.

  Dad used to take me on opening day to Hat Creek or the Upper Sacramento River to bounce 'salmon eggs' or throw Panther Martins around. 
The bluegill in the neighbors pond suffered greatly as my passion grew. 

My elementary school had a fly tying class when I was in the 6th grade, so I started tying at a very young age. Grandpa would buy my Muddler Minnows for $1 each. I was starting to unleash a monster within... Little did I know that I would be completely immersed in flyfishing as an adult. 
I've been guiding for The Fly Shop for the past 15 years. I was Certified by Mel Kreiger thru the Federation of Fly Fishers as an official "Casting Instructor" in 1999.  I then taught for a few years with Mel, who taught me to teach, and taught me to cast really, really far with very little effort.
For 6 years, I worked inside The Fly Shop, filling orders, assisting customers, learning all I could about the sport. During much of that time, I held the position of Director of Guide Services.  Booking trips and managing guides and private waters was fun, but when I got the offer to work a season in Alaska followed by a season on the bonefish flats of Venezuela, I couldn't resist.
That first year away from the desk, I logged over 315 days on the water - split between Alaska, Venezuela and the Lower Sac.   
Bonefishing took ahold of my life, and over the next 5 years, I would return to the flats of Venezuela a half dozen times....and French Polynesia.....and Hawaii.....and Christmas Island....and the Bahamas - three times! 
I'm an addict.  

But, I never miss working the October thru January season of the Lower Sac!! Winter is a special time out there.

Fly Fishing is all I do. Guide. Teach. Explore. Travel. Tie. Write. 
It's not a part-time job.  It is what I do.

My wife specializes in buying and selling fly-fishing properties and waterfront land and homes.  I know quite a bit about fishing but she's the professional when it comes to real estate.  Sarah's a California licensed agent and broker.  She fishes and she understands the needs of anglers looking for properties.
