I have extra rods/reels for my clients who show up without equipment. I prefer my clients fish with the rods they are comfortable with so bring your favorite 6 wt. or 7 wt. with you. You will need your own waders/boots if we are on a wade trip.
Waders are not absolutely necessary on Lower Sacramento River drift trips.
Flies : Many of my trips start by meeting at The Fly Shop, where I will want to see your fly boxes. I can then recommend fly patterns to purchace that you might not have.
For a small additional charge, the trip can be booked as a "Package Deal". I will supply rods/reels/tippet/indicators/shot/and all flies for the day. You simply dress accordingly. I do the rest.
*ROD SIZE - Please do not show up with a 4 wt.
Accomplished anglers can make a fast action 5-wt work okay. But I prefer medium action 6 weight or 7 weight rods for all Lower Sac fishing. Bright colored floating lines are used exclusively for nymphing the Lower Sac.
I will bring lunch on all full day guided trips. Lunch will include sandwiches (turkey and/or roast beef), potato chips, granola bars, soda and water. Feel free to bring whatever else you want to have during the day, (snacks, wine/beer, specialty foods or beverages).
Lunch is NOT provided on half-day guided trips but I will have plenty of bottled water on the boat. Bring whatever you want to eat/drink while we're on the water for a half day trip.
Sorry. These fish are my livelihood. I practice CPR (Catch, Photograph, Release).
Plus it's bad JuJu to work so hard to catch a beautiful wild fish, then kill it. Plan on taking plenty of pictures. I can direct you to local waters that have planted fish just for the taking.
I usually work with two clients at a time. I can work with three anglers, but only on a wade trip. And even then, it's hard to be in three places at once, so....one or two anglers is IDEAL.
Single client trips are more for specific instruction all or part of the day....or just to be a little greedy on a day off from the office so you can hog all the fish!
Examples of instruction given for single-client trips are -- Basic Fly Fishing and casting Lessons, on-water Spey casting instruction with or without two-handed rods, specific types of presentations for different waters, fly and leader/tippet system construction, angling tactics and approaches, streamer fishing with sink-tips, breaking down "holding water" on any given river, drift boat rowing instruction, or whatever you want to learn about fly fishing NorCal.
Email me for personal one-on-one single hand or two-handed Spey Casting lessons. Charges for lessons are hourly. Two hour minimum.
Weather sometimes changes things but for the most part, all full day trips will be, on average 8-9 hours on the water.
All half day trips are at least 4 hours on the water.
Still have questions not covered here ?? Email me and I'll get back to you as soon as I'm off the water!
